I believe that the majority of people are vegans at heart and don’t desire to harm animals even if they were raised to do so (like me). I believe many of my meat-eating friends are future vegans, because they love animals. I believe that when presented with the truth and after waking up from the brainwashing from the system of Carnism (check out Dr. Melanie Joy), people can decide whether they want to participate when they realize that they have a choice in the matter once aware of the truth about the invisible consequences of each choice.
Extreme angry activism happens because we get emotionally connected to the needless suffering of animals (billions annually) and the apathy we see around us. We start treating meat-eaters as if they are conscious and aware about what their choices and actions are causing. Most people sort of know, but not really, or they just don’t think about it, or make rationalizations, justifications, and even jokes per their Cognitive Dissonance, as the system is designed to take our personal choice, conscious awareness, and any reluctance to participate out of the equation. Add peer pressure, tradition, convenience, and the comfort of the familiar, and this explains why most future vegans are still happily asleep/plugged in.
Angry vegans are angry because they bear witness to the suffering, and yell and scream at those who cannot seem to comprehend their own actions as causing such suffering. It is our job as activists to help those still unconscious in the system to become conscious and empathetic again. Different methods work for different people. The most effective method I have personally used is showing the way and living the way I wish to see others live. Many will come to it for personal health reasons, and once their bodies are cleaner, they can more fully realize and feel empathy towards the animals and the cause/effect of their former actions.
I believe that meat-eaters deserve to be woken up and shown the truth. I believe meat-eaters deserve the chance to realize suffering and feel empathy. I believe meat-eaters have the potential to set aside their own egos and evolve, not only for the animals and the planet, but also for themselves. I don’t believe they deserve to die.
